Holiday Table Decor | Transitional Table

I love the changing of seasons, and I love setting a pretty table. Holiday table decor is a wonderful way to set the tone for your home, and to welcome others.  One way I like to simplify that process (and simplify the budget!) is to use the items we already have, to change up the table setting.

I have all-white dishes, both as our everyday set and our nicer, guest-friendly set that my sweet husband bought me for Christmas one year. I can mix these dishes endlessly, no matter how many guests we have. If I need extras, I can always keep an eye out for clearance sets at discount stores to add to the mix. Food looks pretty on white dishes, and changing just a few pieces of linen or centerpiece completely changes the look of your holiday table decor (and your home!).

I like to bring in a few mismatched pieces from other parts of the house, like a small pitcher that holds flowers in the guest room, or candles that normally grace the family room.

Since our whole-house decor incorporates neutrals and a soft, warm grey, I always have those colors on hand. By picking up even just two napkins in a complementary, but more seasonal color palette, I can mix them with fabric napkins or add them to a bread bowl for a subtle update.  Whenever I see linens or accessories, I picture them with that very basic palette, and then I can decide if they will work for me, year after year.  With few exceptions, if they don’t, I appreciate their beauty, and leave them on the shelf.  😉

Mixing fresh florals or produce with artificial produce (which I can store and reuse each year) saves money and makes the decor look more authentic.

This table has served us beautifully through the autumn season; now I’m working on our Christmas table!

One of my favorite ways to keep what matters in front of us, is to add artwork that “speaks the truth in love.”  This season allows me amazing opportunity to use my daughter’s scripture artwork, and I’m so grateful.
